Mr. Reid has been teaching in Virginia Beach schools for over 25 years. 2025 marks his sixth year at Old Donation School, Home of the Brickell Academy for Advanced Academics and Arts. Previously, he taught for 14 years at Corporate Landing Middle School, where he was honored as the 2019 Teacher of the Year. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Education and a Master of Science in Secondary Education degrees from Old Dominion University, as well as a Gifted Endorsement Certificate from William & Mary. While attending ODU, Mr. Reid played trumpet in the Wind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Faculty Brass Quintet, Jazz Band, and Pep Band. He was also a featured soloist with the Wind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Jazz Band, Concert Choir, Madrigals, and in student and honors recitals.
He is a dedicated member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Virginia Music Educator's Association (VMEA), Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA), and an alumni member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia professional musicians' fraternity. Throughout his career, Mr. Reid has composed and arranged numerous pieces for solo trumpet, small ensembles, orchestras, and bands.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Reid has served in many leadership roles, including as Chair for the District 2 Band Festival, the All-City Band Auditions, the All-City Band Event, the Music, Solo & Ensemble Festival, and the All-City Jazz Band. He is currently Chair of the VBODA District 2 Middle School Concert Band Assessment. Mr. Reid is an active adjudicator for concert band assessments and clinician for honor band events throughout Virginia and North Carolina.
In his free time, Mr. Reid enjoys spending time with his wife, who is also a music teacher and honored Teacher of the Year in Chesapeake, their fifteen-year-old daughter, cat, and dog.
